History
The director‘s passion for the environment came about as a result of his exposure to the diverse Southern African natural and cultural landscapes. This led him to consider a career in conservation initially.
Contact with grass-root level communities during his Master’s degree research however revealed the fact that the environment consists of economic, social and biophysical systems and that this environment can only be productive if managed responsibly as a sustainable whole.
Involvement in projects of various extents in both urban and rural contexts further added to his understanding of the need for development and of the ability of cultural and natural systems to sustain themselves and to contribute to developmental activities and facilities, if managed sustainably.
Philosophy
At SPOOR we pride ourselves in developing appropriate environmental management solutions which grow from a development’s environment. The aim is to develop innovative planning, design and management solutions which incorporate the responsible and sustainable use of our natural resources.
Special attention is also given to the regulatory requirements of developments to ensure that clients remain compliant in terms of the relevant environmental legislation and best practice standards.
Finally, at SPOOR we dedicate ourselves to finding original mitigation and rehabilitation measures for all of the operational phases of developments and to monitor these operations in order to assist our clients and the environment in functioning productively.
SPOOR: The Company
SPOOR Environmental Services was born from the realization of the increasing need for personalized and site-specific environmental planning, design and management solutions. Over 20 years of experience in an array of different projects spanning the agricultural, communications, industrial, infrastructure, mining, residential, and tourism sectors has brought along with it a wealth of experience. Without exception these projects were carried out within multi-disciplinary teams in which each contribution in terms of applicable environmental management solutions was essential.
Other than the project-specific contributions of the various professionals, SPOOR furthermore keeps up-to-date in terms of the most recent environmental issues, legislation and policies via subscriptions to environmental publications and legal advisories as well as keeping in constant contact with the relevant national, provincial and local authorities. In terms of our product, SPOOR understands that our reports present the principle output. Here SPOOR integrates the invaluable contribution of the pertinent software packages and other related technologies to be able to communicate results in a simple and efficient manner.
Finally SPOOR comprehends the challenges associated with empowering individuals of previously disadvantaged communities. The local and African landscape is in desperate need of qualified and experienced individuals who can promote and achieve sustainable development from the grass root community level to the corporate and public development arena. Who will be better at accomplishing this feat than South Africans who are inspired and passionate about our continent?
SPOOR tackles this challenge by actively seeking opportunities for individuals from previously disadvantaged communities at every level of our operations. We are also in frequent contact with the local academic institutions in search of promising individuals who can add value to our company and our projects.
