SPOOR was appointed by Zutari Consulting Engineers to develop an ecological rehabilitation plan to form part of the post-construction rehabilitation of a section of sewer pipeline along a tributary of the Rooikuilspruit in Thabazimbi in the Limpopo Province. SPOOR worked alongside specialist freshwater ecologists and the civil engineering team to develop a rehabilitation plan which could be implemented during the various phases of the construction of the pipeline. The rehabilitation plan also included a post-construction monitoring and maintenance plan as well as an invasive species management plan to allow the riverine environment of this tributary to stabilize and recover. As with all of our rehabilitation projects special attention was given to the specific species chosen in the planting palette of the rehabilitation plan to not only rehabilitate the project area but also to serve as a starting point for the increase of indigenous riverine species downstream of the project.
