The Salvokop precinct has been served by an existing bulk water pipeline for quite some time. As part of the City of Tshwane’s and the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure’s routine maintenance programme, the existing pipeline needed replacement. The challenge here was that the existing pipeline servitude crossed underneath the existing tourism infrastructure of the Freedom Park facilities and the proposed new bulk water supply pipeline, therefore, had to be re-routed.

SPOOR worked together with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, ecologists, palaeontologists, heritage specialists, the local community and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) to find the optimum pipeline alignment with the least impacts to the local social and ecological environment. The project is currently in the final stages of review at the DFFE and SPOOR expects another environmental authorization as a result of the efforts of the stakeholders involved.
