South Africa faces significant challenges in the constant maintenance and management of its urban wastewater treatment infrastructure. Growing urban populations, inter alia, has put severe strain on these wastewater treatment works necessitating the systems to be upgraded and refurbished. SPOOR is proud to have been part of the professional teams managing these projects over the country. SPOOR has been privileged to be involved in several aspects of these projects.

Primary aspects include the translation of the environmental authorization and the environmental management plan into site-specific environmental specifications to enable Contractors to submit competitive tenders for the construction projects in terms of the environmental requirements, environmental awareness training at the inception of the projects, month-to-month environmental monitoring during construction as well as the related reporting. In addition, SPOOR has also assisted the various Contractors and their health and safety teams in sourcing other environmental services (e.g. asbestos treatment and handling, occupational hygiene, stormwater management etc.)
